With its maritime charm and eventful past, the Hanseatic city of Stade is definitely one of the greatest cities in northern Germany. Stade offers everything a holidaymaker’s heart could desire and also provides a holiday feeling for residents.<\/p>\n

For more than 1,000 years, the brick-red old town and the historic Hanseatic harbour have been the centre of Stade. Many cosy caf\u00e9s and restaurants with inviting terraces are lined up along the fish market and offer a great view of the old harbour. Right next to it is the Schwedenspeicher Museum, which tells the story of the Hanseatic League in an interactive way. <\/p>\n

The pedestrian zone in Stade is an inviting place to shop and is characterised by cobbled alleyways with picturesque half-timbered houses. The baroque hall church of St Cosmae with its famous Arp Schnitger organ<\/p>\n

and the Gothic-style hall church of St Wilhadi round off Stade’s townscape. The more modern town harbour offers an anchorage for excursion boats and yachts. <\/p>\n

From here, the coaster and museum ship “Greundiek” or the flat-bottomed ship “Tidenkieker” sail towards the Elbe. <\/p>\n
