Bach & you! Creative Spaces for Young Artists

The Bach & now! Festival invites you to discover Bach and contemporary music and to get creative yourself. We are already looking for your style, your video and your Sound Puzzle.

We will publish your pictures, clips or own sound compositions at the beginning of the festival on 27 March 2025 on our website and also at Schloss Agathenburg.

We look forward to your participation!

Bach & you! Your Style

Like a Drawing!

Paint or draw a picture. What do you think Johann Sebastian Bach would look like today? Would he wear a hoodie and trainers? Or rather a suit? What would his hairstyle be like?

Let your imagination run wild and draw or paint a picture with lots of contrasts, no larger than A3 format.

Sende uns bis spätestens 10. März 2025 Dein Bild zu – an: info@bachandnow.de – Betreff: Bach & you! Dein Style

We will be happy to publish your picture on our website and in Schloss Agathenburg at the opening of the festival with the consent of your parents.

The name will not be published, only on explicit request.

Bach & you! Your Video

And Action!

Here you are asked to re-enact and film a scene from Bach’s life.

What was Bach like as a cantor at St Thomas’, as an organist or as a teacher?

Let your imagination run wild and create a video about Johann Sebastian Bach with a maximum playing time of 3 minutes in MP4 format.

If you can’t think of anything about the old master Bach, you can also make a clip about “contemporary music”.

Do you know the piece There Will Never Be Silence: Scoring John Cage’s 4’33? Perhaps you could create something similar, but it must be no longer than three minutes and in MP4 format.

Or you could devote yourself to the gestures of contemporary music:

In contemporary music, there are often certain movements, gestures or signs that represent something. How would you express feelings such as anger, happiness, calmness on the instrument through gestures? For example, you could tap rhythms on your instrument, express feelings through gestures, cover the strings of the instrument or sing into the wind instrument. You may not be sawing off the neck of a violin or the leg of a grand piano to create an interesting sound, but there are no limits to your imagination.

Incidentally, your instrument doesn’t necessarily have to be used. You can certainly think of another possibility, and if you don’t play an instrument, you are just as welcome here.

Please remember that the clip should not be longer than three minutes and should be sent in MP4 format.

Our team is looking forward to your video clip! And one thing is for sure, Bach would have loved it. Be creative! You are part of our Bach now festival!

We will be happy to publish your video on our website and at Agathenburg Castle at the start of the festival with your parents’ consent. Names will not be mentioned, only on explicit request.

Bach you! Your Sound Puzzle

Play Bach & now!

We have created a puzzle from popular Bach themes. Cut out the individual staves with the notated motifs or phrases and put together your own theme. You can also shorten the given motifs or combine them with notes/sounds or motifs you have invented yourself. Be free!

We not only have Bach themes on offer, but also contemporary motifs by the great contemporary composer Rouzbeh Rafie, which you can put together. We look forward to seeing what you decide on.

We would be delighted if you would play the Sound Puzzle with your instrument, record yourself and send it to us, either as a video with a picture or just as an audio recording.

Have fun puzzling and making music!
