The composer and pianist Apollonio Maiello juxtaposes aesthetic elements from various genres. In collaboration with renowned artists, he performs as both a composer and pianist at festivals around the world, including Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ (Netherlands), Grachtenfestival (Netherlands), Stony Brook University (USA), Felicja Blumenthal Festival in Tel Aviv (Israel), Theaterhaus Stuttgart (Germany), Accademia Musicale Chigiana (Italy), Teatro Grande di Brescia (Italy), and the Heidelberg Castle Festival.
As a composer, he has received commissions from the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest (Netherlands), Ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi (Italy), Nymphéas Trombone Quartet (Netherlands), Sputter Box (USA), Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra (USA), Intercontinental Ensemble (Netherlands), ShoutHouse Ensemble (USA), countertenor Alex Potter & Ensemble La Dolcezza (UK/Italy), Hear Now Berlin (Germany), NEMA Ensemble (Italy), Steinway artist Alexandra Sostmann (Germany), and Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo (Italy). In 2022, he worked as an arranger with Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Becca Stevens.
He has been recognized in various competitions, including the International Symphonic Composition Competition Michal Kleofas Oginski in 2020, the Steinway & Sons Jazz Piano Prize in 2016 in Stuttgart, and the National Yamaha Jazz Piano Competition in 2017. His music has been released by renowned labels such as BR-KLASSIK, AVROTROS Klassiek, Neuklang, and Backlash Music.
