John Jungclaussen is not a musician but a historian and journalist. After completing an intensive study of history in London and Oxford, he settled permanently in the United Kingdom and became a foreign correspondent for DIE ZEIT in 2001. In this role, he reported for nearly twenty years on British politics, economics, and culture. In addition, he gained recognition for his radio documentaries for the BBC as well as for his work as a television commentator.
Jungclaussen is currently working on a book about the close yet distinctive relationship between Germany and Britain. Throughout his life, Johann Sebastian Bach—or J. S. Bach, as the British call him—has played a central role for him. “If I had to choose a soundtrack for my life,” he says, “it would be the Goldberg Variations.”
