Dr. Jörg Hansen

Dr. Jörg Hansen is a German lawyer, philosopher, and cultural manager who has long been dedicated to the communication and promotion of music and culture. After studying law and philosophy in Bielefeld and Hamburg, his academic and professional path led him to Leipzig, where he worked in a law firm in Eisenach during his studies — the very city that would later become the center of his career.

In 2001, Hansen first served as acting managing director of the Bachhaus Eisenach. In 2006, he was officially appointed as the museum’s director. Under his leadership, the Bachhaus evolved into one of the world’s most important exhibitions devoted to the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach.

With a keen sense for innovative approaches to cultural mediation, Hansen initiated projects that turned the museum visit into a truly engaging experience. Interactive listening stations dedicated to Bach’s organ and orchestral works, contemporary exhibition concepts, and thematic special exhibitions — such as those exploring the numerical symbolism in Bach’s music — attracted international attention and opened the museum to a wide and diverse audience.

Dr. Jörg Hansen combines scholarly precision with cultural creativity and has transformed the Bachhaus Eisenach into a vibrant place where history, music, and the present meet.
