Dr. Meinolf Brüser

Meinolf Brüser initially studied law in Cologne, during which time he participated in various ensembles for early music in the city. After completing his second state examination in law, he pursued studies in church music and spent three years studying early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he studied historical organ playing under Jean-Claude Zehnder. Following this, he began his legal career, which took him to Berlin. He currently leads the Renaissance vocal ensemble Josquin Capella, with which he has produced a number of recordings for WDR that have also been released on CD, and he performs as a harpsichordist and organist. Brüser holds a doctorate in both law and musicology. His dissertation, "When Bach Mourns: Johann Sebastian Bach's Motets Reinterpreted," was published in 2023 by Bärenreiter. This was followed in 2024 by the book "It Is All a Breath of Wind: Bach and the Mystery of the 'Art of Fugue,'" also published by Bärenreiter.
