"Gruzman is an extremely sensitive and poetic artist with a perfect technique and sound culture," wrote the Westdeutsche Zeitung about the internationally renowned pianist Grigory Gruzman. At the age of seven, he was admitted to a special music school for gifted children in St Petersburg due to his outstanding talent. During his school years, which he left at the age of 18 with general and musical university entrance qualifications, he performed over 300 times in Russia.
In 1974, he emigrated to Israel, where he began his studies at the Academy of Music in Jerusalem. From 1977, he continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg/Breisgau with Professor Vitalij Margulis, graduating in 1982 with a concert exam.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Gruzman has performed over 1000 times with internationally renowned orchestras in almost all European countries, the Far East, Australia, Latin America and the USA since 1974. Zudem gründete er 1985 mit zwei Kollegen das Schostakowitsch-Trio, das von der Kritik als eines der besten Ensembles der Gegenwart gelobt wurde.
He also founded the Shostakovich Trio with two colleagues in 1985, which was praised by critics as one of the best ensembles of the present day. In 1980, he was appointed head of the largest major class at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt. From 1998 to 2006, he was a professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, and in 2006 he was appointed professor at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, where he has also been the director of the Institute for Keyboard Instruments since 2013.
As a teacher, Gruzman can look back on the success of many of his students, who have become prizewinners and finalists in various national and international competitions. He has led international masterclasses for piano and chamber music in many European countries, overseas and in the Far East.
