Alex Potter

Alex Potter is one of the leading countertenors on the European music scene. Praised by the press for his "ethereal tone" and "marvellous voice leading" and as a "rising star in the world of countertenors", he is a much sought-after interpreter of 17th and 18th century music and performs with prominent conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe, Thomas Hengelbrock, Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Hans Christoph Rademann. In addition to the works of established composers, his interests also extend to lesser-known repertoire, which he sings in performances and concerts under his own direction.

Recent notable performances include Bach's Mass in B minor with the Dresden Staatskapelle under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe, a concert of works by Bach and Telemann with Arcangelo/Jonathan Cohen at Wigmore Hall and Benjamin Britten's "Abraham and Isaac" with tenor Thomas Hobbs in Vancouver, Canada. Most recently, he performed with the Vespres d'Arnadi Orchestra at the Palau de la Musica in Barcelona: The programme "Handel - Friends and Foes" is based on his own concept and combines works by Handel with those of lesser-known contemporaries.

Alex Potter's musical career began as a choirboy at Southwark Cathedral. He studied musicology at New College at the University of Oxford and furthered his practical knowledge at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.

He has an extensive discography with numerous ensembles and several solo recordings. These include his solo CD "Antonio" with La Festa Musicale, released in 2023, which combines motets and instrumental works by Vivaldi, Caldara and Lotti, and received great critical acclaim.
