The music magazine Fono Forum praised Jürgen Bruns, Artistic Director of the Kammersymphonie Berlin, as "one of the most interesting German conductors". He is a sought-after conductor in Europe and Asia for classical and romantic music and is considered a luminary for contemporary music. In recent years, he has conducted over 80 world premieres. He is known for his performances and recordings of rediscovered works by previously ostracised composers, classical modernism and expressionism. He has been honoured with numerous awards for this commitment, which is particularly close to his heart as a German conductor.
His concerts are regularly broadcast on the radio; in the last ten years alone, more than 40 of his concerts and portraits have been broadcast. His discography is also varied and includes almost 30 CDs.
Jürgen Bruns studied violin at the Hanns Eisler Academy in Berlin and became a member of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin while still a student. At the same time, he began his conducting studies with Rolf Reuter and completed his training with Gilbert Varga in Florence and Charles Bruck in Paris, as well as at the Pierre Monteux School in Maine from 1991 to 1992. In 1991 he gave up his engagement with the Konzerthausorchester to devote himself exclusively to conducting. In the same year, he founded the Kammersymphonie Berlin, which is one of the most renowned German chamber orchestras.
