Rouzbeh Rafie draws inspiration for his compositions from many sources, including literature, folk music and scientific-mathematical concepts such as chaos theory. The aim of his compositions is to capture the complexity of memory and to explore concepts such as archetypes, memory and the perception of time. The resulting insights allow him to create a sound that is both ancient and contemporary.
His musical training began at the Tehran University of the Arts with Sharif Lofti and Kiawash Saheb-Nassagh. In 2011, Rafie continued his studies with Rosario Mirigliano at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia and with Ivan Fedele at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he graduated with top marks in 2028. He currently lives in the Netherlands.
His music can be heard all over the world in concerts and festivals, including performances at Solti Hall (Budapest), Roudaki Hall (Tehran), Stockholm Konserthuset, Nuova Consonanza Festival in Rome and with the Mar del Plata Philharmonic Orchestera (Argentina).
After winning the 2021 Kokonainen Musqual Composition Competition, he was appointed Composer in Residence at Muequal (Finland) for the years 2022 to 2024.
