The Huss/Schnitger organ in St Cosmae et Damiani, with its three manuals and 42 stops on a 16-foot base, is considered one of the most important large North German Baroque organs of its time. It provides an insight into North German organ culture of the 16th and 17th centuries and offers an authentic representation of the organ compositions from this period. The instrument has an exceptionally large original pipe collection, with most of the reed stops being original. The first organist, Vincent Lübeck, began his tenure in 1675 and worked here for almost 30 years. Since 2024, Thorsten Ahlrichs has been the organist and district cantor at St Cosmae et Damiani. He will introduce this important baroque organ, share historical stories, interesting facts, and anecdotes, and present some live music samples.
