Johann Sebastian Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier I

Johann Sebastian Bach created a musical monument to himself with his Well-Tempered Clavier. In this work, he not only demonstrated his perfect mastery of counterpoint but also was one of the first to exploit the newfound freedom of well-tempered tuning. The variety of styles in this collection is astounding. Experience this masterpiece performed by the renowned Bach interpreter Alexandra Sostmann.

Wilfried Schäper from Radio Bremen remarked on her performance of the Well-Tempered Clavier: “Bach’s music sounds incredibly clear and logical under Sostmann’s fingers, but at the same time musical and authentic. Alexandra Sostmann succeeds in squaring the circle here; her Bach performance unites heart and mind in an ideal balance.” Dr. Eckhard Weber from Concerti added: “Sostmann’s Bach sounds fresh, without an ounce of excess, unfolding a wonderful complexity and a wealth of colors and sensitively placed nuances. All in clear lines and with well-thought-out sound characters, masterfully realized. Alexandra Sostmann is a sound alchemist at the piano. Great art.”
